There are two kinds of Midwest shirts. There's the kind a company in California made after looking at a map, and there's the kind made by someone who knows that a "couple three" is a real quantity, that ranch is a food group, and that "ope" is a complete sentence. We make the second kind.

Every graphic on this site is drawn in-house, which is why the Wisconsin shirt has cheese, cranberries and Packers green on it instead of a generic state outline. It's also why we can put your town on one if you ask. This is the whole Midwestern lineup in one place — ten states, the designs that aren't state-specific, and the three filter levels every one of them comes in.

Unique Midwest T-Shirt Ideas, One State at a Time

The state designs are the deep end of the collection. Each one is packed with the stuff people actually argue about — the food, the teams, the landmarks, the weather that builds character. Pick your state and we've written the whole story behind it:

  • Wisconsin — cheese, cranberries, supper clubs and a Sunday religion
  • Minnesota — the North Star State, the lakes, and "you betcha" as a load-bearing phrase
  • Iowa — corn, the Hawkeye State, and a farm scene that gets the details right
  • Illinois — Chicago and the rest of the Prairie State, which are two different places
  • Michigan — the mitten, the Great Lakes, and pointing at your palm to give directions
  • Ohio — the Buckeye State and a rivalry we're not getting in the middle of
  • Indiana — Hoosier pride, basketball, and the racing
  • Missouri — the Show-Me State, the Arch, and barbecue opinions held with real conviction
  • Nebraska — the Platte at sunset, corn, and a Good Life sign that means it
  • Kansas — sunflowers, wheat, a meadowlark, and Home on the Range

Nebraska and Kansas are also the two we currently offer personalized — put your own town, name or year on the badge and we'll send you a proof before anything gets printed. For the wider version of that idea — any town in ten states, or any city and state at all — see our guide to custom hometown shirts. If you want to go deeper on what actually separates Midwestern from country, we wrote about the Midwestern spirit and how it's different — kind of.

The Designs That Belong to the Whole Region

Not everything is state-specific. Some of it is just Midwest, full stop — the collegiate lettering, the ear of corn, the barn and windmill under an open sky. These are the ones that work whether you're from Toledo or Topeka.

The farm scene is the other one people keep coming back for — a red barn, a silo, a windmill and open fields, drawn like an old feed-store sign. It reads as nostalgic rather than loud, which is why it's the one people buy for their parents.

Three Filter Levels, Same Design

Here's the part that makes this collection actually useful as a gift. Every design comes in three versions, and they're the same artwork — only the wording changes.

  • Midwestern AF — clean. Wear it to your kid's game, to your in-laws, to the airport. Nobody blinks.
  • Midwestern As F**K — the asterisks do the work. Edgy enough to be funny, censored enough to survive a family group photo.
  • Midwestern As Fuck — fully spelled out. This is the one most people actually want and the one they buy for the friend with no filter.

It means you can buy the same Wisconsin design for your grandma and your college roommate and neither of them gets the wrong shirt.

How to Style Midwest Pride Shirts Without Looking Like a Tourist

Nobody needs a styling lecture about a graphic tee, so here's the short version of what actually works.

Let the shirt be the loud thing. These designs are detailed — a whole state's worth of illustration on the chest. Pair them with plain denim and boots or clean white sneakers and stop there. A busy flannel over a busy graphic fights itself.

Match the shirt color to the design, not the season. The heather and vintage colors — peach, mustard, athletic heather, natural — make the aged-print artwork look like it's been in your closet for years, which is the point. The blacks and dark browns make the same graphic pop hard instead. Both are right; they just say different things.

Size for the fit you want. The Bella + Canvas 3001 tee runs true to size with a fitted cut. The Lane Seven three-panel fleece hoodie runs roomier and more streetwear. If you like an oversized tee, go up one; if you want the hoodie tailored, go down one.

Layer the hoodie in October and stop thinking about it until April. That's not styling advice so much as a description of Midwestern life, but it's why we put every state design on fleece as well as cotton.

Which One Are You?

If you know exactly which state you're from and you've got opinions about it, start with your state above. If you're buying for someone else and you're not sure how much attitude they can take, the corn graphic and the farm scene are safe in every direction. And if you already know the answer is "the uncensored one," we're not going to talk you out of it.
