Want It in a Different Color, With Your Name on It? Just Ask — Custom Design Changes Are Free - Anything AF
Here is the single most useful thing to know before you buy anything from us, and it is not a discount code:
Every design on AnythingAF.com is our own — drawn, written, and built in-house by us, which means you won't find them anywhere else. It also means we can change them. If you want one of our designs tweaked for you — a different color, your name on it, your state, your unit, your inside joke — just ask, and we'll do it at no extra cost. Email us at information@anythingaf.com or send us a message on our Facebook page, and we'll get right back to you.
You will find that paragraph on the bottom of most pages on this site. It is not marketing filler. It is a standing offer, and people are genuinely surprised when we say yes. So this post is the long version: what we will actually change, why we can do it when most shops can't, what it costs (nothing), and exactly how to ask.
We Draw Every Design Ourselves — That's the Whole Reason This Works
If you have ever asked a print-on-demand store to change something and been told no, there is usually a good reason: they don't own the artwork. A huge share of graphic tees online are printed from licensed clip art, marketplace bundles, or stock design packs. The seller bought a file. They did not build it. There are no layers to open, no fonts to swap, no source file to edit — and often the license they bought explicitly forbids modifying the art at all.
We are a different animal. Every graphic in this shop started as a blank canvas on our own screen. That means we still have the working files — the layers, the fonts, the color values, the front and back placements. So when someone asks us to make the lettering red instead of white, or drop a last name across the back, we are not hunting for permission or redrawing from scratch. We are opening a file we already own and moving one thing.
That is why "can you customize an existing t-shirt design?" is a five-minute question for us and an impossible one for a lot of our competitors.
What Counts as a "Tweak" — Spoiler: Almost Everything
People tend to ask timidly, like they're imposing. You are not imposing. Here is the kind of thing we do all the time, free:
- Color changes. Different ink color on the graphic, or the same design on a garment color we haven't listed yet.
- Names and last names. A first name, a nickname, or a last name across the back — one of the most common personalized name t-shirt requests we get.
- Your state, your city, your town. We already build state pride designs for a lot of the country. If yours isn't up yet, ask. It probably takes us less time to make than it took you to look for it.
- Your unit, ship, squadron, or MOS. More on this below, because it comes up constantly.
- Dates and years. Birth years, anniversaries, "est. 1998," retirement dates, deployment years.
- An inside joke. Swap our words for your words. If your friend group has one line that makes everyone lose it, that line belongs on a shirt.
- A different volume level. Love a No Filter design but need it clean for work? We'll make you the AF Edition version, and vice versa.
- Tee to hoodie, or hoodie to tee. If a graphic exists on one and you want the other, say so.
- Front-and-back placement. Move the art, add a back print, shrink it to a left-chest.
The honest boundary is effort, not policy. A color swap, a name, a date, a word change — those are free, every time, no argument. If you're asking for a brand-new illustration built from nothing, that's a different conversation, and we'll tell you that plainly instead of quietly padding your invoice.
Why We Don't Charge a Design Fee
Plenty of shops charge $15, $25, sometimes $50 to touch a file. We looked at that and decided it was backwards.
A design fee mostly does one thing: it stops people from asking. And a customer who didn't ask either buys a shirt that is 80% right, or buys nothing. Neither is good for us. A shirt with the right name, the right state, and the right color is a shirt that gets worn, photographed, complimented, and reordered. We would much rather have that than $20 for ten minutes of file work.
There is also a practical reason. Everything here is made to order — nothing is sitting in a warehouse in a fixed configuration. Since we are printing your shirt one at a time anyway, changing what gets printed on it costs us essentially nothing. Charging for it would be charging you for our software being open.

How to Ask: Facebook Messenger or Email, About One Minute
There is no form to fill out, no account to create, and no ticket number. Two ways in:
1. Facebook Messenger. Go to our Anything AF Facebook page and hit the message button. This is the fastest option, and it is the one most people use, because you can paste a screenshot right into the thread from your phone. If you can send a text message, you can do this.
2. Email. Write to information@anythingaf.com. Better if you have several changes to describe, or you're ordering for a group and need a paper trail. You can also reach us through our contact page.
To make it quick, include whatever of this you have:
- A link to the design, or just a screenshot of it
- What you want changed, in plain language
- The exact spelling of any name, unit, or text — spelling is the one thing we cannot guess
- Size, garment color, and when you need it
You do not need to know design vocabulary. "Can you make the words green and put SANCHEZ on the back, size XL" is a perfect message. We have built shirts off less.
You Approve a Mockup Before Anything Gets Printed
This is the part that makes the whole thing low-risk. Once we understand what you want, we send you a digital mockup for approval. You look at it. If the name is spelled wrong, the color is off, or it just isn't landing, you say so and we adjust. Nothing goes to the printer until you say go.
So there is no version of this where you pay for a custom shirt and then discover it isn't what you pictured. You see it first, every time.
No Minimums. One Shirt Is a Perfectly Good Order.
A lot of the custom apparel industry is built around bulk. Twelve-piece minimums, screen setup charges, per-color fees, two-week lead times. That is a fine model if you're outfitting a softball league. It is a terrible model if you want one shirt with your dad's Air Force squadron on it for his birthday.
We have no minimum order. One shirt is a real order and gets the same attention as twenty. There is no setup fee, no per-color charge, and no penalty for being a single person who wants a single good shirt. If you have been searching for high quality custom t-shirts with no minimum, that is us — and the customization on top of it is still free.
The Requests We Get Most
Military — units, ships, squadrons
This is our number one custom request by a wide margin. Guys and gals want the design they found, but with their unit on it. We do it constantly: battalion, squadron, ship name, MOS, rank, years of service, a deployment year. If you are hunting for custom shirts for a military unit with no minimum, or a morale shirt that isn't the same tired stock design everyone else has, just message us with the wording. Start from the Military collection and tell us what to change.
State and hometown pride
We build a lot of regional designs — see the Midwestern, Country, American, Redneck and Brooklyn lines. If your state or your town isn't represented yet, that is not a no. That is a "give us a couple of days." Some of it is already done — our guide to custom hometown shirts covers the ten states that already take any town you type.
Birthdays and milestone gifts
Name, age, year, and a joke only their family would get. Our Birthday collection is built for exactly this, and it is our go-to answer for a personalized gift for someone who is impossible to shop for — because the thing that makes it land isn't the shirt, it's the detail on it that only you would have known to include.
Groups, teams, and parties
Bachelorette and bachelor parties, family reunions, work crews, road trips, rec league teams. Same design, different names on each shirt, no bulk minimum required.
Inside jokes
Our favorite ones. Somebody sends us a sentence with no explanation and we put it in our own lettering. Look through Funny & Random for the general flavor, then send us your version.
Pick Your Volume Level: AF Edition, Slightly Salty, or No Filter
Everything here comes in three attitude tiers, and this matters for customization because we can move a design between them for you.
- AF Edition — completely clean. Work-safe, grandma-safe, airport-safe. All the personality, none of the profanity.
- Slightly Salty — the As F**K tier. Lightly censored, still gets the point across, safe for mixed company.
- No Filter — fully uncensored, for adults who are done filtering.
Found the perfect design in the wrong tier? That is a free change. Tell us which version you need and we'll build it.
And if you would rather start from scratch, the Personalized AF collection lets you set the text yourself right on the product page — no message required.
What We Won't Do (Being Straight With You)
Two honest limits, so nobody wastes a message:
We will not reproduce artwork we don't have the rights to. That means no pro or college team logos, no other brands' marks, no copying another artist's design. Not because we're precious about it — because printing it would be illegal and we'd rather keep the lights on.
And we won't promise a same-day turnaround. Everything is printed to order by our production partners in the United States, so a custom tweak sits inside the normal production window. If you have a hard date — a birthday, a homecoming, a retirement ceremony — tell us the date in your first message and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done. We will be quick though. Our priority is to make you happy and part of that is getting to work in a timely manner. We don't like to sit around and we don't want you sitting around waiting either.
So Just Ask
Most people never ask, and then settle for a shirt that was close. You do not have to do that here. Every design on this site is ours, we still have the file, and changing it for you costs you nothing.
Message us on Facebook or email information@anythingaf.com, tell us what you want different, and we will send back a mockup. If you love it, we print it. If you don't, we change it again.
